Duties
- Safely operate a range of heavy-duty commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and box trucks, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical soundness and compliance with safety standards.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, or manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo integrity.
- Plan routes effectively for long-haul trips, optimizing delivery schedules while maintaining compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation for each trip, including delivery logs, mileage records, and vehicle inspection reports.
- Communicate clearly with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, delays, or issues encountered on the road.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Qualifications
- Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial driving roles such as shuttle driving, route driving, or freight transportation.
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and heavy equipment operation.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy haul, heavy equipment operation, and load securing techniques.
- Experience with warehouse operations or logistics environments is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills for effective coordination with dispatchers and clients.
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as moving freight using pallet jacks or forklift trucks when necessary.
- Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance awareness.
