Motor Mechanic - Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Motor Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of vehicles. The successful candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to completing work safely and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect vehicles and identify mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic faults.
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and safety checks.
- Repair or replace brakes, suspension, steering, exhausts, batteries, and other vehicle components.
- Use diagnostic equipment and specialist tools to investigate faults.
- Perform road tests before and after repairs when authorised.
- Complete vehicle inspections in line with manufacturer and legal requirements.
- Provide clear explanations of faults, repairs, and recommended maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and time spent.
- Keep tools, equipment, and the workshop clean, organised, and safe.
- Follow health and safety procedures and dispose of oils, fluids, and parts responsibly.
Qualifications and Experience
- Recognised qualification in motor vehicle maintenance and repair, such as NVQ Level 2 or 3, City & Guilds, or an equivalent qualification.
- Ability to use vehicle diagnostic equipment.
- Strong understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
