Job Title: Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
Location: Christchurch Medical Practice – Purewell
Reports to: Advanced Nurse Practitioner Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our dynamic primary care team at Christchurch Medical Practice – Purewell. The ANP will work autonomously within their professional scope, providing care through face-to-face consultations, telephone assessments, and home visits.
This role requires advanced clinical knowledge, critical decision-making skills, and the ability to manage a diverse patient caseload. The successful candidate will provide expert advice, triage and treat patients, coordinate referrals, and ensure the highest standards of clinical safety and excellence.
The postholder will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS).
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Nursing Practice
- Deliver advanced clinical care using expert assessment and critical judgment skills.
- Provide duty ANP support, including advanced triage, same-day advice, and management of unexpected clinical events.
- Diagnose, manage, and treat acute and chronic conditions for adults and paediatric patients.
- Prescribe and review medications according to current best practice, national guidance, and practice protocols.
- Request and interpret diagnostic investigations (e.g., blood tests, X-rays, scans) within agreed protocols.
- Refer patients appropriately within primary and secondary care and liaise with multidisciplinary teams.
Care Management
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and relatives regarding care plans.
- Monitor and contribute to local and national clinical targets (e.g., QOF, prescribing incentive schemes).
- Ensure care outcomes meet standards, recommending changes where necessary.
Health Improvement
- Lead health screening programs and promote disease prevention initiatives.
- Introduce innovations in care delivery and provide evidence of impact through reports and presentations.
- Make appropriate referrals to statutory and voluntary agencies to improve patient outcomes.
Administration & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in line with legislation and policy.
- Participate in practice meetings, audits, and governance activities.
- Ensure clinical areas are maintained, restocked, and compliant with infection control standards.
Training & Personal Development
- Maintain and update professional knowledge and skills.
- Support education and training of staff and students.
- Take responsibility for personal development, revalidation requirements, and mentoring others.
Governance & Compliance
- Contribute to quality governance, audits, and improvement initiatives.
- Apply safeguarding policies and statutory guidance for vulnerable patients.
- Ensure adherence to practice policies, legislation, and best practice.

- Maintain own and team safety, infection control, and workplace hygiene.
- Report hazards and incidents promptly and comply with PPE and safety procedures.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration.
- MSc, PG(Dip) or MA in Advanced Clinical Practice preferred.
- Independent Prescriber qualification.
- Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in primary, community, or acute healthcare.
- Experience managing acute illness, long-term conditions, and minor ailments independently.
- Skilled in triaging, diagnosing, prescribing, and referring both adult and paediatric patients.
- Competent in interpreting diagnostic tests and routine clinical procedures.
- Proficient with clinical systems such as SystmOne.
- Full UK driving licence or access to alternative transportation.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Working towards or completed Advanced Clinical Practice at Master’s level.
- Experience in inter-agency working across health networks.
- Experience in clinical governance, risk assessment, and health promotion.
