Duty Manager – Moredon Sporting Hub
Service/Directorate: Central Swindon North Parish Council
Location: Moredon Sporting Hub (with occasional work across CSNPC sites as required)
Reports to: Sporting Hub Manager / Head of Operations (as applicable)
Hours: This is primarily a weekend-based role, with regular weekend shifts from 8:00am to 5:30pm.
Flexibility is required to work additional hours during the week, including evening/late shifts, depending on the operational needs of the Sports Hub.
Contract: Permanent – Part-time 19hrs
Job Purpose
To be responsible for the safe, efficient and customer-focused day-to-day operation of Moredon Sporting Hub during allocated shifts. The Duty Manager will lead staff on duty, maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness, support bookings and activities, and ensure that all safety, security, and operating procedures are implemented and followed.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service and Facility Experience
- Maintain a welcoming, helpful and professional approach that promotes a positive image of the Sporting Hub to customers and the wider public.
- Assist customers with the use of facilities and activities, providing guidance and support to encourage maximum use of the Sporting Hub.
- Handle customer enquiries, issues and feedback promptly and professionally, escalating where appropriate.
Operational Delivery
- Take day-to-day responsibility for effective control of Sporting Hub operations during the shift, ensuring:
- security and access control,
- customer supervision and safe use of facilities,
- general cleanliness and presentation,
- equipment checks and readiness for use.
- Prepare facilities, rooms, pitches and equipment for sessions, hires and events as required (including setting up and resetting spaces).
- Ensure bookings are correct, spaces are allocated appropriately and any changes are communicated clearly to staff, customers and relevant partners.
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all safety, operating procedures and site rules are understood and followed, including SOPs and EAPs.
- Undertake and record required checks (e.g., opening/closing checks, equipment checks, cleanliness inspections, basic plant/security checks as applicable).
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, first aid situations and evacuations, ensuring correct escalation and reporting.
- Ensure compliance requirements relevant to the role are upheld (e.g., fire safety checks, accident/incident reporting, equipment condition checks, basic food safety controls where applicable).
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise staff on shift, allocating work effectively and ensuring tasks are completed to required standards.
- Lead by example and support the team to deliver excellent customer service, safe working practices and consistent operational standards.
- Ensure staff understand and follow SOPs/EAPs and other operational guidance.
- Support people management procedures within the team, including:
- absence reporting and shift cover escalation,
- maintaining mandatory training/qualifications,
- performance feedback and standards monitoring.
- Escalate staffing, performance or conduct issues to management as required.
Housekeeping, Energy and Resource Management
- Maintain strong “good housekeeping” systems across all public and staff areas.
- Assist management in implementing improvement plans for energy conservation and maximising use of resources (e.g., ensuring lights/heating/plant are used efficiently, reducing waste, reporting defects promptly).
Communication, Administration and Reporting
- Complete required records and reports accurately (e.g., shift handover notes, incident logs, cleaning/equipment check records, defect reports).
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, user groups and partners to ensure safe and smooth operations.
Person Specification (Summary)
Essential
- Experience in a customer-facing operational environment (e.g., leisure, hospitality, community facilities or similar).
- Experience supervising staff or leading shifts.
- Strong customer service skills with a professional, calm approach.
- Good understanding of health & safety in a public-facing environment and confidence applying procedures.
- Ability to organise tasks, prioritise work and respond to changing demands.
- Confident communicator, able to deal with customers, staff and contractors.
- Willingness to work shifts, including evenings/weekends and events.
Desirable
- First Aid at Work (or willingness to obtain).
- Fire Marshal training (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in leisure/sports facility operations.
- Experience supporting bookings systems, event set-up, or front-of-house operations.
- Food hygiene qualification (if café oversight is within scope).
