Job description: Trainee Quarry Supervisor
Cymru Quarry Group are suppliers of granite & limestone aggregates, asphalt, readymix concrete, liquid screed as well as construction services such as road resurfacing & civil engineering, operating all over Wales.
We supply quarried materials, stone, concrete, readymix and tarmac from seven granite, limestone and sandstone quarries, three asphalt plants, eight concrete plants. We also deliver multimillion pound infrastructure projects and suppling the majority of the labour as well as the materials from our own resources. Our employees are skilled in road surfacing, paving and utilities works.
Based in South Wales, operatives will be required to work safely and productively, producing high quality work. We are excited to offer a Trainee Programme for our Quarry Operations, designed to nurture the next generation of management talent. This role offers a blend of on-the-job training and academic learning, providing a head start for someone to start their career or develop their career. We have built and tailored our own unique training plan with support from mentors and managers. You will receive full exposure to all functions in the quarry and our extended departments. Starting with this Training Programme the quarrying and mineral products industry offers so much potential for individuals starting off at entry level and progressing up the career ladder to responsible roles managing people and processes; up to and including senior management and executive roles. Upon completion of this programme, you will have attained the skills and knowledge to start your career with Cymru Quarry Group as a Quarry Supervisor at one of our quarries.
The Position:
As a Trainee Quarry Supervisor you will support the Quarry Supervisor/Manager to oversee the operations and production at a quarry site. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient and safe extraction of minerals. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, leadership skills, and an understanding of health, safety & environmental regulations. Quarry Supervisors are vital to the success of any quarry operation. They are responsible for supervising all aspects of the quarry, from developing and implementing quarry plans and strategies to ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
You will develop the skills to carry out the responsibilities below: -
Safety Management of all operations within the quarry
Ensure compliance with the company SHEQ procedures
Ensure that key government health and safety legislation (Quarries Regulations 1999 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Quarries) Regulations 2008) is implemented throughout the site
Assisting in planning and carrying out quarrying activities.
Assisting in day-to-day quarry safety checks.
Build your knowledge of extraction and processing systems and your interpersonal and management skills to ensure the efficiency of the quarry operation
Check that the quarry's production levels are maintained safely to ensure stock levels are maintained
Alter the quarry's production system in accordance with the materials required
Performance manage the production process and set and monitor targets
Provide information and statistics on the quarry's performance
Maintain up-to-date records and deal with paperwork
Ensure quarry water levels are within control and discharges are within compliance.
Develop & maintain inspection systems and checklists
Build your knowledge of our customers processes
Basic understanding of how mobile & static plant
Mentoring and support will be provided from our Quarry Management Team.
Trainee Programme Year 1 - Enrolment onto Level 4 MPQC (Mineral Products Qualification)
Training Courses - Manual Handling (1 Day), Telehandler, Dumper, Loading Shovel, Working at Heights & Safe use of Harness (1 day), Abrasive Wheels (1 day), Confined Space (1 day), Thermal and Oxy Cutting, IOSH Leading Safety (2 Day), First Aid, Geotechnical Awareness for Operatives (1/2 Day),
Your first year on the programme will involve learning and working in various roles around the quarry, 3 months quarry operations, 1 month weighbridge operator, 1 month asphalt plant, 1 month ready-mix batcher, 3 months quarry supervisor, 1 month health & safety manager.
Year 2 – Training Courses - Blasting for Non-Blasting Managers (3 day course), Intermediate Level Geotechnical Knowledge & Practice (2 days), Supervising Safety in Extractions and Processing Industries (2 days), Asphalt & Pavement Technology (1 week course)
6 Months working with our Quarry Managers/Supervisors. The remaining 6 months you will refresh in shadowing all the quarry departments from year 1, duration 1 month each.
Terms & Conditions
A full UK driving licence is essential for travel across our sites.
Qualifications - Minimum 4 GCSE's C-grade or above.
Contracted Hours – 47.5 hours (Training days will form part of your contracted hours), flexibility to work overtime as and when needed.

Location of Role – Ceredigion Area ( Will be required to travel to different sites as and when required )
