Job Summary
Independence Support Ltd (ISL) is an experienced provider of mental health and community support services. We are expanding our community crisis offer across East Cheshire and are looking for passionate and motivated Community Mental Health Workers to join our team. The role will cover Macclesfield, Crewe & other areas within Cheshire East.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative community-based crisis service that supports people experiencing mental health distress and crisis. Our service provides a safe, welcoming, non-clinical environment alongside outreach support across local communities, helping people access the right support at the right time.
Working within our Crisis Hub and Outreach Service, you will support individuals to de-escalate crises, build resilience, develop coping strategies, and connect with community resources that promote recovery and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Providing compassionate, person-centred support to individuals experiencing mental health crisis.
- Delivering one-to-one crisis interventions, emotional support and recovery-focused conversations.
- Supporting individuals to develop safety plans, wellness plans and coping strategies.
- Conducting outreach visits within the community, including supporting individuals in their homes and community settings.
- Facilitating group activities and wellbeing sessions.
- Working alongside NHS mental health services, Crisis Resolution Teams, GPs, social care services, emergency services and voluntary sector partners.
- Providing practical support around housing, finances, benefits, employment and community integration.
- Supporting individuals transitioning from inpatient services, crisis teams and emergency departments.
- Promoting social inclusion and reducing isolation through community engagement.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service monitoring and quality improvement.
- Identifying and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and risk.
About You

You will ideally have:
Essential
- Experience supporting adults with mental health needs, emotional wellbeing needs, or complex life challenges.
- A good understanding of recovery-focused and person-centred approaches.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
- Understanding of safeguarding adults and risk management.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across East Cheshire.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Mental Health, or equivalent.
- Experience of crisis intervention or community mental health services.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Mental Health First Aid, ASIST Suicide Prevention or equivalent training.
- Personal or professional experience of recovery and lived experience approaches.
