Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Primary Tutor (Key Stages 1 & 2) to support pupils in their education from September 2026.
The successful candidate will deliver tailored tutoring sessions (in-person and online), fostering a positive learning environment that encourages confidence and progress.

Responsibilities
- Deliver personalised tutoring sessions across core subjects suitable for primary school students.
- Develop customised lesson plans to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
- Assess student progress regularly and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Create engaging and interactive learning activities to motivate students.
- Support students with special educational needs, ensuring inclusive teaching practices.
- Maintain clear communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress and areas for improvement.
- Foster a positive, encouraging environment that promotes confidence and a love of learning.
- Manage session schedules efficiently, ensuring punctuality and organisation.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in tutoring and / or teaching primary pupils.
- An excellent knowledge of your subject area and understanding of the primary curriculum.
- Have an empathetic, patient and understanding approach.
- Be confident in assessing pupils' current attainment and providing engaging lessons throughout the course of tuition.
- Knowledge of special education needs (SEN) support strategies is advantageous.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Strong communication skills to clearly convey concepts and build rapport with families.
- Be reliable, organised and dedicated.
- Regularly evaluate learning needs and actively seek new teaching methods where required.
- Be adept at providing informative and constructive feedback to families on tuition progress.
- Able to support a pupil for a minimum of one academic year.
The role will be based in the Exeter area and you will ideally have your own transport.
Due to some lessons taking place in-person, being able to travel to family homes or to a community location (library etc.) during after-school hours or weekends is essential.
Please be aware that the role will be subject to referencing and an enhanced DBS check.

Pay: £30.00-£40.00 per hour
