Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: Starting at £34,980
Location: Shropshire (Hybrid working available) with some travel
Holidays: 26 days plus statutory holidays per annum to be calculated pro rata to hours worked
Axis overview
Axis Counselling is a charity which has been supporting survivors of sexual abuse for over 30 years. We support adults and children aged from 5 years and over, plus family members and loved ones. We currently provide services via our four departments: Counselling; Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service; Complex Care Pathfinder and Training/ Education. Axis also supports high risk survivors of domestic abuse aged 13 and over via our Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) Service.
Post overview
We are seeking an experienced bookkeeper/ Finance officer. The successful candidate will be part of the Senior Management Team, playing a key role in both the strategic plan and operations at Axis. The role encompasses bookkeeping and accounting tasks. The post holder is responsible for recording and maintaining Axis’ financial transactions, ensuring accuracy in financial records, and supporting the CEO with the overall financial health of the Organisation, observing strict confidentiality and discretion.
Key tasks
- Manage Accounts Payable and Receivable Ensure timely processing and payment of invoices, income, and receipts, and collection of outstanding invoices.
- Record Financial Transactions Maintain accurate records of purchases, sales receipts and payments. This includes entering data into Axis Accounting Software – Sage Line 50, and general spreadsheets
- Prepare financial statements showing business income and expenditure
- Prepare Financial Reports for CEO and SMT Generate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Reconcile Bank Statements Regularly verify and reconcile bank statements on Sage to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are addressed promptly.
- Work with Accountants/Payroll Process the payroll monthly, collect expenses and overtime information via Company Database and Managers, check sickness reports for appropriate payments. Maintain employee records for HMRC. Work with Auditors for Annual Accounts preparing documentation. Verify the accuracy of business accounts and alert the accountants of any errors. Submit Accounts/Annual Report to Charity Commission Annually.
- Grant/ contract compliance Monitor grant/ contract spending and prepare financial reporting for funders
- Budget support Assist in budget preparation and tracking
- Audit support Organise records for annual financial audits
- Work as part of the Strategic Senior Management Team Work as an effective member of the Strategic Management Team, advising on financial matters, pre-emptively forecasting financial risks, and spotting opportunities.
- Lead the ‘Financial’ strategic priority Project manage a team of staff to fulfil Axis’s financial strategic priority and meet the financial objectives of the business plan.
