At Lily Pad Day Nursery, our Bank Staff are an essential part of our team. They work alongside our warm, friendly and dedicated practitioners to provide children with a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where they can learn, develop and have fun through play.
Bank Staff provide valuable flexibility across the nursery, supporting our teams when additional staffing is required and helping to ensure that our children continue to receive the highest standard of care and education.

Key ResponsibilitiesSafeguarding and Child Protection
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children at all times.
- Follow Lily Pad’s safeguarding policies and procedures and report any concerns promptly and appropriately.
- Ensure children are appropriately supervised and that their safety and wellbeing remain a priority at all times.
- Maintain accurate awareness of the number of children in your care and the required staff-to-child ratios.

Care and Wellbeing
- Provide a consistently high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children.
- Support children’s individual needs, routines, interests and stages of development.
- Ensure children feel safe, secure, valued and listened to.
- Follow all requirements relating to children’s medical needs, allergies, dietary requirements and individual care plans.
- Organise and support the daily routine with professionalism, enthusiasm and flexibility.
- Provide support to other members of the Lily Pad team whenever required.
Professional Attitude
- Be flexible and adaptable within the nursery environment and be willing to support wherever needed.
- Contribute to the smooth running of the nursery, including appropriate domestic duties such as preparing snacks, cleaning equipment and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Follow the nursery’s day-to-day practices and routines, both indoors and outdoors.
- Attend and participate in relevant training, including Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Basic Food Hygiene, where required.
- Participate in relevant staff meetings, training sessions, parents’ evenings, nursery events and other activities where appropriate.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uphold the high standards and reputation of Lily Pad Day Nursery at all times.
- Complete all required documentation and records, including suitability checks, appraisals and Personal Development Folders.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development and actively engage with training and learning opportunities.
Relationships with Children
- Build warm, caring and positive relationships with all children.
- Respond sensitively to children’s individual needs, interests, emotions and development.
- Engage meaningfully with children through play, conversation and everyday routines.
- Encourage children to develop independence, confidence and positive relationships with others.
- Provide appropriate resources and experiences that reflect each child’s stage of development, interests and individual needs.
- Ensure mealtimes are positive, enjoyable and social experiences.
- Support children with personal care routines, including washing, toileting and changing where required.
- Create an inclusive environment that respects and celebrates children and families from different cultures, backgrounds and religious beliefs.
- Contribute to an exciting and varied range of learning experiences appropriate to the children’s ages and stages of development.
Providing Learning Opportunities
- Support the planning and delivery of high-quality learning experiences within the room.
- Encourage children to learn through play, exploration, creativity and meaningful interactions.
- Where appropriate, contribute to observations, assessments and learning outcomes for children.
- Support practitioners in identifying and extending children’s interests, skills and development.
- Provide children with opportunities to develop across all areas of learning and development.
- Make the most of everyday routines and interactions as opportunities for learning.
Working with Parents and Carers
- Welcome parents and carers warmly and professionally into the nursery.
- Develop positive and respectful relationships with families.
- Share relevant information with parents and carers appropriately and sensitively.
- Support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records relating to children.
- Respect and respond sensitively to the individual needs and circumstances of families.
- Where appropriate, liaise with and support parents and family members, seeking guidance from the appropriate member of the management team when required.
- Signpost families to the appropriate member of the team or external support services where additional guidance or support may be required.
Working as Part of a Team
- Work positively and collaboratively with all members of the Lily Pad team.
- Support colleagues and contribute to a positive, respectful and professional working environment.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and share relevant information appropriately.
- Be willing to work across different rooms and support different age groups as required.
- Work alongside the Nursery Manager and wider management team to ensure Lily Pad’s values, philosophy and standards are consistently maintained.
- Contribute to a culture where everyone works together to provide the best possible outcomes for children.
Policies and Procedures
- Follow Lily Pad Day Nursery’s staff dress code, uniform and hygiene requirements at all times.
- Maintain a clean, professional and appropriate appearance.
- Record accidents and incidents accurately and promptly using the Famly App.
- Ensure accident and incident records are appropriately completed, reviewed and electronically signed by the relevant member of the management team before being shared with parents/carers.
- Ensure any accident or incident concerns are accurately recorded and appropriately monitored through Famly.
- Follow the Lily Pad Day Nursery Staff Handbook at all times.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of Lily Pad’s policies and procedures and ensure they are followed consistently.
- Follow all nursery health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
- Report any concerns relating to children, staff, health and safety or nursery practice to the appropriate member of the management team.
