We are a small, friendly nursery in Portobello with a supportive and dedicated team. We are currently looking to recruit a Full-Time Early Years Practitioner who is passionate about supporting young children and helping them develop in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.
Our nursery aims to provide a warm, caring and engaging setting where children are encouraged to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually through play-based learning and meaningful experiences.
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Years Practitioner to join our childcare team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the development and well-being of young children within a nurturing and stimulating environment.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your organisational, leadership, and childcare skills while working closely with children to support their growth and learning. The role is suitable for individuals with experience in childcare, nursery settings, or early childhood education who are committed to creating a safe and engaging space for children to thrive.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities that promote children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development
- Support children’s individual needs through personalised care and attention
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised environment in line with health and safety regulations
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues through effective communication
- Observe and record children’s development and progress, sharing information with parents and team members
- Demonstrate positive behaviour management and strong organisational skills
- Assist with daily routines including meal times, nap times, and outdoor play
- Contribute to the development of the nursery curriculum by suggesting creative and engaging learning experiences
- Support and mentor new staff members where appropriate
- Ensure compliance with all nursery policies, procedures, and early years regulations
Requirements / Experience
- SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) or an equivalent childcare qualification
- Proven experience working with children in a nursery or early years setting
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Good knowledge of child development and best practices in early years education
- Ability to manage behaviour positively and effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also using initiative
Additional Requirements
The successful applicant must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or be willing to register.
Applicants must also join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) through Disclosure Scotland, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to commencing employment.
