Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Bakery Manager / Assistant Bakery Manager to join our established bakery manufacturing business in Thanet.
This role offers the opportunity to develop and grow with the company as we continue our journey from an artisan foodservice-focused operation into a business serving both foodservice and retail markets. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, developing people, improving processes, and driving standards across production.
The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Warehouse, Engineering, Quality, HR, and Senior Management teams to ensure efficient operations, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the bakery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support day-to-day bakery production operations.
- Lead, motivate, coach, and develop production teams.
- Plan and coordinate staffing levels to meet production requirements.
- Manage employee performance, attendance, conduct, and training activities.
- Support recruitment activities, including right-to-work checks and employee onboarding.
- Ensure all food safety, quality, hygiene, and health & safety standards are maintained.
- Work closely with the Quality team to ensure compliance with customer, retailer, and legal requirements.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure sufficient raw materials and packaging are available to meet production plans.
- Coordinate with Warehouse and Engineering teams to maintain production efficiency and minimise downtime.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, waste reduction, and efficiency gains.
- Support the development and implementation of new processes, procedures, and training programmes.
- Ensure accurate production records and stock controls are maintained.
- Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in a supervisory, assistant manager, or management role within food manufacturing, bakery, FMCG, or a similar production environment.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Good understanding of stock control, production planning, and inventory management.
- Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, GMP, and quality standards.
- Understanding of health & safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience dealing with HR-related matters such as performance management, absence management, disciplinary investigations, and employee development.
- Confident communicator with the ability to work across multiple departments.
- Practical problem-solver with a hands-on approach.
- Keen to develop professionally and grow with the business.

Hours of work Monday - Friday 08:00am - 16:00pm although a reasonable degree of flexibility is required, as support on other shifts may be required.
