Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced, technically strong and hands-on Chief Engineer to take full responsibility for the engineering, maintenance and technical operation of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Liverpool.
This is a senior operational role requiring someone who takes genuine ownership of the building.
The Chief Engineer will be responsible not only for responding to maintenance issues but for establishing a strong preventative maintenance culture, identifying problems before they affect our guests, protecting bedroom availability and ensuring the hotel is maintained safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the Engineering and Maintenance department.
- Maintain bedrooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens, event spaces, spa and back-of-house areas.
- Develop and manage an effective Planned Preventative Maintenance programme.
- Ensure reported defects are followed through to completion.
- Investigate recurring faults and deliver permanent solutions.
- Manage HVAC, air-conditioning, boilers, hot-water systems, electrical systems, plumbing, drainage, pumps and BMS.
- Oversee spa/pool plant, lifts, fire and life-safety systems and general building fabric.
- Work closely with Housekeeping and Front Office to identify bedroom defects before they affect guests.
- Minimise bedrooms being taken out of service for maintenance reasons.
- Manage statutory inspections and engineering compliance.
- Manage specialist contractors and challenge unnecessary expenditure.
- Obtain competitive quotations and ensure contracted works are completed properly.
- Control maintenance expenditure and engineering stock.
- Monitor electricity, gas and water consumption and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Lead, organise and develop the Maintenance team.
- Provide appropriate senior engineering support for significant out-of-hours emergencies.
Candidate Requirements
- Significant hotel, facilities or building-engineering experience.
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- HVAC, boiler and building-plant experience.
- Strong fault-finding ability.
- PPM experience.
- Contractor-management experience.
- Good knowledge of statutory compliance.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Hands-on leadership ability.
Previous hotel Chief Engineer/Engineering Manager experience, relevant technical qualifications and spa/pool plant experience would be highly desirable.
Pay: Up to £40,000.00 per year
