Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Buyer to join our procurement team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing the purchasing process, ensuring that our organisation acquires goods and services at the best possible prices while maintaining quality standards. The Buyer will collaborate with various departments to understand their needs and will be responsible for negotiating costs, managing supplier relationships, and optimising supply chain operations.
Duties
- Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and evaluate their offerings.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers to secure advantageous agreements.
- To place material, subcontractor and plant orders across various trades.
- Carry out material on site checks.
- Manage credit limits.
- Resolve invoice queries with the accounts department.
- Manage the procurement process from requisition through to delivery, ensuring timely fulfilment of orders.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and other relevant data for reporting purposes.
- Monitor and manage costs, ensuring that purchases are within the allocated budget.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues that may arise during the supply chain process.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand their purchasing needs and provide support in sourcing materials or services.
- Undertake value for money reviews.
- To use initiative forward thinking attitude to resolve queries.
- To be aware of and follow company policies and procedures.
Skills
- Proven experience in a buying or procurement role within a multi trade supply chain environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast moving organisation.
- Have a good understanding of construction materials, plant and equipment.
- Willing to learn and progress.
- Problem solving skills.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail for evaluating supplier proposals and performance.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated to achieve individual targets.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (office and excel).
