Are you an experienced Workshop Supervisor with a strong mechanical background who enjoys leading teams, maintaining high quality standards, and ensuring workshop operations run safely and efficiently?
Our client in Alfreton is looking for an experienced and motivated
Workshop Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day running of their busy workshop. This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering business that designs, manufactures, and supports bespoke industrial purification and filtration systems for customers across a range of sectors.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll lead a team of permanent employees and contractors. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend time on the workshop floor, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while supporting your team whenever required.
As the new Workshop Supervisor, you will:
- Lead, motivate, and support a team of workshop employees and contractors
- Report directly to the Operations Manager
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the workshop, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on time
- Walk the workshop floor to monitor progress, maintain quality standards, and promote safe working practices
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and maintain a strong safety-first culture
- Support the onboarding, training, and development of new workshop employees
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to the team whenever required
- Allocate workloads effectively to maximise productivity and efficiency
- Monitor workmanship to ensure all work meets company and customer quality standards
- Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes and drive continuous improvement
- Liaise with internal departments to ensure projects progress smoothly
- Maintain workshop documentation and ensure compliance with company procedures
- Occasionally travel to customer sites to support projects when required
Ideally, you'll have:
- A background within industrial engineering, process engineering, water treatment, utilities, pipework, fabrication, or a similar mechanical engineering environment
- Experience with mechanical pipefitting, as this forms a significant part of the work carried out by the business
- A Lifting & Slinging qualification or experience working as a Lifting Supervisor
- An IOSH qualification (or be willing to complete one, which the company will support)
Main Requirements for This Role
- Previous experience in a Workshop Supervisor or Workshop Management role
- Experience managing, motivating, and developing engineering or technical teams
- Strong mechanical maintenance, repair, or installation knowledge, with some basic electrical understanding
- Proven Health & Safety management experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Comfortable taking a hands-on approach to support the workshop team when required
- Excellent organisational, planning, and communication skills
- Strong commitment to maintaining high quality standards and ensuring work is completed correctly first time
- Ability to prioritise workloads and make effective decisions in a busy workshop environment
- Willingness to learn specialist products, systems, and manufacturing processes
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to occasionally travel to customer sites if required
- Able to commute to Alfreton daily, as this is a fully site-based position

About this role:
- Full-time, permanent position based in Alfreton
- Working hours are 7:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
- Some flexibility may be required to support operational workloads
