Hereward Care Services Ltd is seeking a proactive Senior Support Worker to join our team in providing high-quality, person-centred support for individuals with a range of physical and learning disabilities, including profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex health needs.
About the Role
As a Senior Support Worker, you will play a key role in empowering our service users to live fulfilling lives while maintaining dignity, respect, and independence in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
In addition to providing direct care, you will step up as a Shift Leader, delegating tasks, guiding less experienced staff, managing medication and store orders, and ensuring high standards of care and record-keeping across the team. You will also 'act up' to take on extra responsibilities in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Shift Leadership & Guidance: Lead shifts, delegate duties, mentor junior staff, and provide cover for the Registered Manager when required.
- Direct Person-Centred Care: Support service users with personal care, self-help skills, community integration, and managing behaviour that challenges.
- Healthcare & Administration: Complete healthcare tasks to high standards, order medication and supplies, and maintain accurate written and electronic records.
- Safeguarding & Risk Management: Follow safeguarding procedures, complete risk assessments, and maintain health and safety across all activities.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Prepare reports and liaise with families, care managers, local authority representatives, and healthcare professionals.
- On-Call Cover: Participate in an out-of-hours emergency on-call rota system.
Role RequirementsEssential:
- Qualifications: Level 3 NVQ in Care (or equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience supporting adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in a senior capacity. Experience supporting individuals according to Support Plans and Risk Assessments.
- Skills: Strong leadership, excellent communication, basic IT skills, and the ability to work independently or without direct supervision.
- Licence & Age: Must hold a valid UK driving licence and be 18 years of age or older.
- Flexibility: Able to work flexible hours at short notice, overtime, and participate in the on-call rota system.
- Eligibility: Right to work in the UK and fluent in English.
Desirable:
- Training in alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, signs, and symbols).
- Attendance at additional relevant professional development courses.

Pay: £14.01-£15.01 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
