At NXG Thrive, we deliver early-intervention mental health and wellbeing support to children and young people (ages 11 - 19), working together with schools, local authorities and community services. Our aim is simple: reach young people early, build their emotional resilience, and stop small struggles from becoming lasting distress, disengagement or exclusion.
We're looking for a warm, dependable and boundaried Community Wellbeing Session Facilitator to lead group wellbeing sessions in schools and community settings. If you're the kind of person young people open to, who can hold a room, spot when someone's quietly struggling and keep calm when a session gets challenging — we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll do
You'll be the person delivering our group wellbeing sessions on the ground — creating a safe, welcoming space where young people feel able to engage. During a session, you'll:
- Deliver structured group sessions using our trauma-informed, evidence-based programme materials, adapting your approach to the age and needs of each group.
- Manage the room with confidence — setting clear group agreements, encouraging participation, de-escalating conflict and handling challenging behaviour calmly and fairly.
- Take ownership of each session — timekeeping, venue suitability, group size and ratios — keeping sessions running safely and smoothly.
- Keep accurate records — completing all registers, attendance and consent forms, session logs and outcome paperwork provided by NXG Thrive, fully and on time, so our reporting stays audit- and inspection-ready.
- Case studies - Identifying 2 students from the sessions that showed progress from the initial to the last session.
- Spot who needs more — recognising when a young person's needs go beyond group support and referring them promptly to a qualified clinician for 1-to-1 help.
- Safeguard always — recognising and reporting any concern immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and handling disclosures sensitively.
- Handle information responsibly — treating young people's personal and health data with strict confidentiality and in line with UK GDPR.
To be clear about the boundaries of the role: you won't be providing clinical assessment, diagnosis or 1-to-1 therapy — that's what our clinicians are for. Your job is to run brilliant, safe group sessions and make sure the young people who need clinical support are identified and passed to the right person.
What we're looking for
You'll need:
- Experience facilitating groups or delivering sessions with children and/or young people (youth work, education, mentoring, wellbeing or community settings all count).
- Confident behaviour-management and de-escalation skills, with the ability to build rapport while keeping firm professional boundaries.
- A solid grasp of safeguarding and your duty to report concerns.
- Genuine reliability with paperwork — accurate, timely record-keeping matters here.
- An understanding of confidentiality and data protection and the judgement to know when a safeguarding concern overrides confidentiality.
- Willingness to undergo and maintain an Enhanced DBS check with Children's Barred List check.
It would be a bonus if you have:
- A relevant qualification in youth work, education, health or social care, counselling skills, psychology or similar.
- Training in trauma-informed practice, Youth Mental Health First Aid, or safeguarding.
- Experience working within NHS, local authority or education reporting frameworks.
What we offer
- Competitive sessional rate
- Full induction and ongoing training, including safeguarding and data protection.
- Supervision, reflective practice and real support from our clinical team.
- The chance to do genuinely meaningful work that changes young people's lives early.
Safeguarding commitment
NXG Thrive is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with a Children's Barred List check, satisfactory references and right-to-work verification. Our recruitment follows safer-recruitment principles. We're an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
Pay: £20.00-£30.00 per hour
