Verdant Terra is seeking an experienced, commercially minded Compliance Manager to lead and strengthen our compliance framework across the organisation. This is a key role for a confident professional who can translate regulatory obligations into practical, scalable processes while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and sound decision-making.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Compliance Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, controls, monitoring activities, and training programmes. You will work closely with operational leaders, legal advisers, finance, people teams, and external partners to identify and manage compliance risks effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Verdant Terra’s compliance management programme.
- Monitor relevant laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policy requirements; assess their impact on the business and coordinate appropriate responses.
- Develop, update, and communicate compliance policies, procedures, guidance materials, and control frameworks.
- Conduct regular compliance risk assessments, control testing, and internal reviews; track corrective actions through to completion.
- Manage the company’s compliance monitoring plan, maintaining clear evidence, records, and reporting for senior stakeholders.
- Advise managers and employees on compliance matters, providing pragmatic guidance that supports responsible business decisions.
- Coordinate investigations into potential breaches, incidents, or concerns, ensuring appropriate documentation, confidentiality, escalation, and remediation.
- Maintain and promote reporting and whistleblowing channels, helping ensure concerns are handled fairly and consistently.
- Deliver engaging compliance training and awareness initiatives for employees, managers, and relevant third parties.
- Support due diligence processes for suppliers, partners, and other third parties, including risk-based onboarding and periodic review.
- Prepare concise management reports on compliance risks, trends, incidents, training completion, and programme effectiveness.
- Partner with internal and external auditors, legal counsel, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders where required.
- Champion a positive speak-up culture and embed compliance considerations into everyday operations, projects, and strategic decisions.
What You’ll Bring
- Significant experience in compliance, risk, governance, audit, legal, or a related control function.
- A strong working knowledge of compliance management principles, regulatory change processes, risk assessment, and internal controls.
- Experience designing or improving compliance policies, monitoring programmes, training, and reporting.
- Sound judgement and the ability to balance regulatory requirements with commercial and operational realities.
- Excellent investigation, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A high degree of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when managing sensitive information.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and deliver practical outcomes in a changing environment.
- A relevant professional qualification in compliance, risk, law, audit, governance, or a related discipline is desirable.
