EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONER
Pre-Prep & Nursery (Term-Time)
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, caring and motivated Early Years Practitioner to join our Pre-Prep team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a nurturing and high-quality early years environment, supporting children’s learning and development across the Nursery and wider Pre-Prep setting.
The Role
The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated and collaborative team, contributing to all aspects of nursery life while also supporting provision across Pre-Prep and After School Club where required.
The role offers variety and the opportunity to build strong relationships with children, colleagues and families in a vibrant school community.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday, worked on a term-time only basis.
Flexibility is essential, as the role includes a combination of nursery-based working and later shifts to support the After School Club.
Key Responsibilities
The Early Years Practitioner will:
- Work as a member of the Nursery team to create a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment
- Build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues
- Take on key worker responsibilities for a group of children
- Observe, assess and support children’s learning and development
- Contribute to the recording and reporting of children’s progress
- Contribute to planning and delivering engaging learning experiences in line with the Curriculum for Excellence Early Level
- Support children’s language development through play, stories and interaction
- Assist with personal care routines where required
- Supervise children both indoors and outdoors, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times
- Support children on outings and school activities
- Participate in staff meetings, training and school events
- Contribute to ongoing reflection and development of the nursery provision
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of learning environments and resources
- Work collaboratively with external professionals where required (e.g. health or support services)
- Support the After School Club provision as required
Additional Responsibilities
You may be required to work across different areas of the Pre-Prep, including Nursery, P1–P3 classes and After School provision, in order to meet the operational needs of the School.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum qualification: Certificate in Early Years Education or equivalent
- At least 3 years’ experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting
- A sound understanding of child development
- Knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence Early Level
- A flexible, positive and team-oriented approach
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A genuine passion for supporting young children’s learning and wellbeing
Requirements
- Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) (or ability to register prior to appointment)
- This role is subject to PVG Scheme membership
Further Information
- Attendance at training days at the beginning and end of each term is required
- Participation in school events (e.g. parent meetings, summer fair) is expected
