Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Porter/Kitchen Assistant to support our culinary team in maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment. This role involves assisting with food preparation, cleaning duties, and ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen. The successful candidate will play a vital part in upholding high standards of hygiene and service within our establishment. Prior experience in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality setting is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable culinary and hospitality experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks under supervision to support chefs and kitchen staff
- Ensure all kitchen areas are kept clean and hygienic, including washing dishes, utensils, and cookware
- Maintain cleanliness of work surfaces, floors, and equipment throughout shifts
- Support with organising stock and ingredients to ensure efficient workflow
- Assist with waste disposal and recycling procedures in accordance with health and safety standards
- Help with serving food and beverages when required during busy periods
- Follow all health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all staff members
Skills
- Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques is desirable but not mandatory
- Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment is advantageous
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to different roles within the kitchen setting
- Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service times
