Financial Controller
Location: Mumbles, Swansea
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Employment Type: Full-time but shorter days to accommodate school or family commitments will be considered.
About the Role
We are looking for a qualified ACA or ACCA accountant to join our growing hearing care business as Financial Controller.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accountant who has completed their professional qualification and is looking to take on a broader, hands-on financial management role within an established and expanding business.
Working closely with the senior management team, including Senior Financial Controller, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the business, providing accurate financial information, enhancing processes through the use of AI and providing insight and support to help drive commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and ensure robust financial controls are maintained.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports and performance analysis.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.
- Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, payments and banking.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns to HMRC.
- Prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
- Provide commercial insight and financial analysis to support management decision-making, using AI.
- Manage month-end and year-end processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Liaise with external accountants and other professional advisers as required.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting, tax and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting.
- Visit our branches to improve processes and drive performance
- Support the wider management team with financial advice and analysis.
- Assist with business planning, investment decisions and growth initiatives.
About You
We are looking for someone who is qualified ACA or ACCA, with practical accounting experience gained in practice, industry or a similar commercial environment.
You will ideally have:
- ACA or ACCA qualification, recently achieved or newly qualified will also be considered if there is other experience within finance.
- Practical experience across a broad range of accounting and finance activities.
- Strong understanding of management accounts and financial reporting.
- Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and able to embed the use of AI into processes.
- Commercial awareness and an ability to understand the wider business, not just the numbers.
- The confidence to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and strong communication and people skills to work well within a team.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to get involved across the business.
- Driving licence and use of a car
