We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Porter / Chef Assistant to join our busy kitchen team.
This is a varied role, primarily focused on Kitchen Porter duties, while also providing support to our chefs with food preparation and service. You will play an important part in keeping the kitchen clean, organised and running efficiently, whilst gaining experience across different areas of kitchen operations.
The ideal candidate will have Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene training, or be willing to complete the relevant training. Previous kitchen experience would be an advantage, but we are happy to consider someone who is enthusiastic, hardworking and keen to learn.
Responsibilities
- Keep all kitchen work surfaces, sinks, equipment and preparation areas clean and sanitised.
- Wash pots, pans, cookware, utensils and cutlery efficiently to keep equipment in rotation.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors at the beginning and end of shifts, and as required.
- Keep the bin yard clean, tidy and organised.
- Ensure all cellars and kitchen storage areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Empty bins and manage kitchen waste appropriately.
- Keep food and supply storage areas organised.
- Assist with deliveries, including putting away equipment and ingredients.
- Support chefs with basic food preparation, including peeling, chopping and preparing ingredients.
- Assist with buffet preparation and service.
- Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
- Assist with opening the kitchen when required.
- Support breakfast service and, when required, assist the breakfast chef.
- Help maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and health & safety at all times.
- Be prepared to assist wherever needed to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
Requirements
- Ideally Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene trained.
- Previous kitchen, catering or hospitality experience is desirable but not essential.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
- Good organisational skills and attention to cleanliness.
- Able to follow food hygiene, health & safety and workplace procedures.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and carrying out physical kitchen duties.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to be flexible with duties.
- Calm and organised when working under pressure.
