Engineering Supervisor
Location: Pierson Road, The Enterprise Campus, Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon, PE28 4YA
Contract: 4 on, 4 off shift pattern. 12-hour shifts with a daily unpaid break of 1 hour. 38.5 hours average working time per week.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Engineering Supervisor to lead our engineering team at our Alconbury Weald site. This is a working supervisor role, combining day-to-day team leadership with active involvement in maintenance and repair activities.
You will be responsible for overseeing daily engineering operations, maximising equipment reliability, ensuring planned maintenance schedules are met, and maintaining high standards of health and safety. You’ll act as the first point of contact for the team, supporting performance, attendance and development while working closely with the wider business to minimise downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Team Supervision
- Supervise the daily activities of the engineering team, ensuring work is completed efficiently and effectively
- Plan rotas, manage holidays and ensure adequate engineering cover
- Conduct return-to-work interviews and support attendance management
- Provide day-to-day guidance, support and issue resolution for the team
Maintenance & Engineering
- Lead by example as a hands-on supervisor, carrying out PPMs and breakdown repairs
- Support fault-finding and troubleshooting to minimise downtime
- Assist with installation, commissioning and continuous improvement of machinery and processes
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company policies and procedures
Health & Safety
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
- Carry out risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are in place
- Monitor tools and equipment, reporting defects or concerns as required
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including PPMs, work orders and breakdown reports
- Monitor team performance against KPIs and provide regular updates to the Engineering Manager
- Identify training and development needs within the team
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with production, planning and other departments to support seamless operations
- Act as an escalation point for complex issues
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers when required
- Foster a positive, collaborative and communicative team environment
About You
Essential
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team

- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations and best practice
Desirable
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)
- Previous experience in a maintenance or engineering role with supervisory responsibility
- Experience working with manufacturing or automated machinery
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance planning tools
