ACCURACY CHECKING PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (ACT)

Salary: £29,000–£31,000 per annum, depending on experience
Hours: 37.5 paid hours per week
Typical hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm

ABOUT THE ROLE
Somerby Pharmacy is looking for an experienced and dependable Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACT) to join our growing community pharmacy team.
This is a busy ACT role involving a significant volume of monitored dosage system (MDS), dosette and blister pack accuracy checking, alongside checking standard NHS prescriptions.
The successful candidate must therefore be confident, organised and comfortable undertaking high-volume accuracy checking while maintaining excellent patient-safety standards.
The role will be mainly based at our Oadby branch. However, you will also be expected to work at our Kibworth branch when required.
We operate across both locations as one pharmacy team, so flexibility and a willingness to adapt to the rota are important parts of the role.
We use Titan PMR at our Oadby pharmacy operation.
THE ROLE
You will:
- Undertake final accuracy checking of dispensed prescriptions within your qualification, competence and our SOPs
- Undertake a high volume of MDS, dosette and blister pack accuracy checking
- Check regular repeat prescriptions and other dispensed medicines
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and patient safety
- Work primarily from our Oadby branch
- Support our Kibworth branch when required
- Adapt to branch allocation and rota requirements when reasonably necessary
- Support efficient prescription workflow using Titan PMR
- Work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers and the wider pharmacy team
- Identify and escalate dispensing discrepancies, errors and clinical concerns appropriately
- Support dispensing and prescription assembly when required
- Help prioritise workload and maintain an organised dispensary
- Support stock, owings and medicines management
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation
- Contribute to near-miss reporting, incident learning and continuous improvement
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
You must:
- Be a GPhC-registered Pharmacy Technician
- Hold a recognised Accuracy Checking qualification
- Be competent to undertake final accuracy checking
- Have previous pharmacy dispensing experience
- Be comfortable undertaking large volumes of MDS, dosette or blister pack checking
- Be able to maintain concentration and accuracy within a busy dispensary
- Be willing and able to work across both Oadby and Kibworth when required
- Have excellent attention to detail
- Understand the importance of SOPs, governance and patient safety
- Have good communication and team-working skills
- Be reliable, organised and professional
DESIRABLE
- Previous community pharmacy experience
- Previous MDS, dosette or blister pack checking experience
- Previous Titan PMR experience
- Experience working in a busy or high-volume pharmacy
- Confidence supporting dispensary workflow and other team members
Titan experience is desirable but not essential. Training can be provided to the right candidate.
WORKING HOURS
The normal working pattern will be:
Monday to Friday
9:00am–5:00pm
30-minute unpaid break each day
37.5 paid hours per week
Some flexibility may occasionally be required depending on branch cover, workload and operational needs.
SALARY
£29,000–£31,000 per annum, depending on experience.

- MDS checking experience and competence
- Titan PMR experience
- Overall level of responsibility and capability
LOCATION AND FLEXIBILITY
The role will be predominantly based at Somerby Pharmacy Oadby.
However, the successful candidate must be willing to work at either our Oadby or Kibworth branch when reasonably required.
This may include supporting:
- Holiday cover
- Sickness cover
- Increased prescription workload
- MDS workload
- Operational requirements across either branch
We will aim to provide reasonable notice of rota arrangements wherever possible.
