Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Machine Driver to join our dynamic team! In this vital role, you will operate heavy machinery to support construction, excavation, and site development projects. Responsibilities
- Operate a 360 excavator (tracked or wheeled) in accordance with CPCS/NPORS training and site requirements.
- Carry out excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and loading activities.
- Use the machine for lifting operations where authorised and competent.
- Maintain full awareness of machine limits, safe working loads, and exclusion zone.
- Follow all site safety rules, RAMS, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Conduct daily pre‑start checks and record defects in line with PUWER and LOLER requirements.
- Maintain safe working distances from utilities, personnel, and structures.
- Stop work immediately if conditions become unsafe and report hazards to the Site Supervisor.
- Work closely with banksmen, groundworkers, and supervisors to complete tasks safely.
- Respond to directions from the site team and adjust operations as required.
- Support general site duties when machine work is not required (if agreed in role scope)
- Keep the excavator clean, fuelled, and in good working order.
- Report defects, damage, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure secure parking, isolation, and shutdown procedures at the end of each shift.
- Strong safety mindset and situational awareness.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a coordinated team.
- Good communication with banksmen and ground teams.
- Calm under pressure and adaptable to changing site conditions.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Shift patterns may include weekends or extended hours depending on project needs.
- Use of PPE is mandatory at all times.
Skills
- CPCS Blue/Red Card or NPORS equivalent for 360 Excavator (above and below 10 tonnes as required). Including lifting Operations if required.
- Proven experience operating 360 excavators on UK construction or civils projects.
- Understanding of lifting operations and safe working practices.
- Ability to read site drawings and follow instructions.
