Production Operator – Job Description
Role Overview
Label Express is looking for a hands-on Production Operator to join our narrow-web label converting team. You’ll operate finishing and rewinding machines, support warehouse and help prepare materials for print. This is a varied role suited to someone who’s comfortable moving between machine operation, quality inspection, and general production/warehouse duties.
Key Responsibilities
Operate rewind and label finishing machines
- Inspect printed labels for defects, colour variation, misprints, or damage
- Slit and rewind label rolls to customer-specified widths and quantities
- Remove defective products during inspection
- Label, pack, and prepare finished products for dispatch
- Prepare and make printing plates for print jobs
- Mix and prepare inks to recipe specifications
- Issue and pick materials for production runs
- Handle warehouse duties: goods receipt, stock movement, and organisation of reels/materials
- Maintain accurate production records and job sheets
- Perform basic machine maintenance and cleaning
- Follow health and safety procedures across production and warehouse areas
Skills and Experience
- Experience in label finishing, print, packaging, or warehouse/production environments
- Knowledge of rewinding, slitting, and label inspection processes (or willingness to learn)
- Strong attention to detail for spotting print/product defects
- Comfortable reading job tickets and production specifications
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining machinery
- Physically capable of warehouse tasks (lifting, moving materials)
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Forklift licence a plus but not essential
Working Hours / Shift Pattern:
This role operates on a two-shift rotation from Monday to Friday:
- Morning Shift: 05:50 – 13:25 (Fri: 6:00 – 12:00)
- Afternoon Shift: 13:25 – 21:00 (Fri: 12:00 – 18:00)
