Assistant Bar Manager

Hours: 32–40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends
Contract: Flexible, full-time position
We are looking for a confident, reliable and enthusiastic Assistant Bar Manager to help lead the team at The Milestone.
The Milestone is a lively community pub hosting private functions, weekly bands, live music nights and other regular events. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys a busy hospitality environment and is comfortable taking responsibility for the pub in the Bar Manager’s absence.
Main Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the pub as a trusted keyholder
- Taking responsibility for the premises during management shifts
- Delivering friendly and efficient customer service
- Leading and supporting the bar team
- Assisting with staff training and development
- Cashing up tills and completing end-of-day paperwork
- Preparing and completing banking
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and service
- Ensuring licensing conditions, Challenge 25, health and safety, food safety and company procedures are followed
- Supporting the delivery of private functions, live bands and weekly entertainment
- Handling customer enquiries and resolving issues professionally
- Assisting with stock control, deliveries and general pub operations
- Providing licensed management cover while the Bar Manager/DPS is on annual leave
- Assisting the kitchen team occasionally when required, particularly during busy periods or staff shortages
- Undertaking any other reasonable management duties required for the successful operation of the pub
Applicants should ideally hold a Personal Licence or be willing and eligible to obtain one. Any temporary appointment as DPS would be completed through the appropriate formal licensing process.
About You
The successful applicant will be:
- Dependable, responsible and comfortable working independently
- Experienced in bar work, hospitality or team supervision
- Confident handling cash and completing administrative tasks
- Able to lead, motivate and train members of staff
- Willing to support different areas of the business when required
- Comfortable working in a busy pub and live-entertainment environment
- Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays
- Calm and professional when dealing with customers or challenging situations
Due to the nature of the hospitality business, availability throughout the Christmas and New Year period is mandatory, including key festive trading dates.
