Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in South Manchester from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity, continuing until the end of the academic year.
This rewarding role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide both academic and emotional support, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
The Role
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build positive relationships to encourage engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
- Support pupils with their learning and behaviour throughout the school day.
- Assist in creating a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to meet individual pupil needs.
- Promote positive behaviour and help implement behaviour support strategies.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting children or individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is highly desirable.
- Experience working within education, care, youth work, residential settings, or similar environments is advantageous.
- Calm, patient, and resilient with a positive attitude.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
- Able to commit to a full-time role until the end of the academic year.
Essential Requirements
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Relevant references covering recent employment.
