Job Overview
As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an organised and motivated Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a fast-paced construction environment.
The Accounts Assistant will provide day-to-day support to the Finance Department, ensuring the accurate processing of financial transactions and maintaining strong financial controls. The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, subcontractors, project teams and the wider business to support the smooth running of the company's financial operations.
Purchase Ledger
· Process high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and efficiently
· Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
· Resolve invoice queries with suppliers and internal departments
· Reconcile supplier statements
· Prepare weekly and monthly supplier payment runs
· Set up and maintain supplier accounts
Sales Ledger
Raise customer invoices and applications for payment
Allocate customer receipts
Monitor outstanding balances
Support credit control activities and follow up overdue payments
Reconcile customer accounts
General Office Administration
· Provide administrative support to Project Managers, Furniture, and QS teams
· Support with Purchase Orders (POs) for subcontractors and suppliers
· Assist the QS team with variations, valuations, and cost-control data entry
· Support the onboarding, vetting, and compliance checks of new subcontractors
· Maintain the approved supplier database, ensuring insurances and certifications are current
· Update digital marketing collateral, case studies, and capability statements
· Format, polish, and assemble tender interview and client presentation packs
· Ensure all external documents strictly adhere to company branding guidelines
Banking & Cash Management
· Complete daily bank reconciliations
· Process receipts and payments
· Assist with monitoring company cash flow
· Process employee expenses and petty cash transactions
Construction Finance
· Process subcontractor invoices and payment applications
· Assist with subcontractor payment schedules
· Support project cost tracking and reporting
· Maintain retention schedules
· Assist with CIS administration where applicable
· Liaise with project managers regarding project costs and financial information
Month-End Financial Reporting
· Assist with month-end close procedures
· Prepare account reconciliations
· Process journals, accruals and prepayments as required
· Assist in producing monthly management reports
· Support year-end audit preparation
Administration
· Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems
· Manage the finance email inbox
· Respond to supplier, subcontractor and customer enquiries
· Produce reports using Microsoft Excel
· Ensure compliance with company procedures and financial controls
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
· Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
· Good understanding of purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
· Strong numerical and analytical skills.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Professional and confidential approach to handling financial information
Desirable
Experience within the construction or commercial fit-out industry.
· Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
· Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, COINS or similar ERP systems.
· AAT qualification or currently studying towards AAT (or equivalent).
Pay: £25,500.00-£27,000.00 per year
