Senior HR Advisor (Employee Relations)
Goring on Thames (near Reading), RG8 9AY
Permanent contract
Part-time / Full time, 9am-5pm, minimum 3 days a week.
£40,000 - £55,000 annual salary, pro rata, depending on experience and knowledge
25 days holiday plus bank holidays, enhanced sick pay
About the Role
Think you’re an employment law expert? In our experience there’s a very big difference between the thought and the reality.
And when you apply to this HR role, and get through to the next stage, you’ll have the opportunity to put your skills and knowledge to the test.
Here’s what you can expect if you’re successful:
About 70% of our time is spent dealing with employee relations (grievances, disciplinaries, termination, settlement agreements, TUPE) and trying to find out all the details of what has happened from our clients. A bit like an employment law CSI team! We are the HR advisors our clients ring when they have given staff a second, third, tenth chance to improve, and it is still not working.
The rest of our time is spent on contract and handbook creation for clients, as well as dealing with the usual employee relations topics (e.g. long-term sickness absence, maternity, etc). We also advise on golf club member disciplinary issues. This role doesn’t include any recruitment services for our clients.
We’re looking for someone who loves solving problems. If you are happy to pick up the phone to a client and deal with whatever staff issue they bring up, with no previous briefing, then this is the role for you.
No need for expertise in all areas of employment law – training will be given - and Continuous Professional Development is strongly supported (financially and during working hours).
Our Offer
· Enhanced sick pay
· Non-contributory pension
· Employee Assistance Program
· Free flu jabs and paid blood donation time off.
· Work-life balance - no evening or weekend work required
· Direct client contact at a business owner and senior manager level from day one
· Training and ongoing development encouraged in areas where you have less experience
– please still apply even if you don’t feel you are an employment law expert yet!
· Role is an excellent chance to hone your employment law skills, a good stepping stone on the way to a team management role in a couple of years.
· Our advice is done remotely by email, phone and Zoom
About You
· Good knowledge of employment law (particularly statutory entitlements)
· Extensive experience of managing disciplinary and grievance cases
· Comfortable on the phone, in virtual meetings, and competent in MS Office (especially
Word and Outlook), as well as using the internet
· Curious, direct, outgoing nature, with a pragmatic approach to solving problems
· Good customer facing skills
· Ability to think on your feet
· No CIPD qualification necessary.
Who we are
A highly successful, financially secure, niche consultancy that has grown consistently and successfully over the past 23 years. Turnover of over £800,000 with a healthy six figure profit year on year.
Our clients are mainly small organisations with fewer than 50 employees. We work with 300 of them on retained contracts as their outsourced HR department, advising at managing director level, and giving them practical employment law advice to solve their staff issues.
We are based in Goring on Thames with a small friendly team. Our modern office is in the middle of the village, close to cafes, food delis and shops. We’ve got free parking, but we’re also only a five-minute wander from the train station.
We all work well together and enjoy sharing the highs, and lows, of advising our clients on how to deal with their staff issues. We support each other and no one is left alone to decide the best course of action. We are a team and would love to welcome you as our new teammate!
