Farm and Equine Assistant: 4 hours per week (Monday and Tuesday) : All Year
Riding Assistant: 6 hours per week (Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons): Term Time Only
Combined role: 10 hours per week term time, 4 hours per week school holidays
Salary: £13.20 per hour (£27,531.50 FTE)
We are seeking to appoint a reliable, organised and enthusiastic, Farm & Equine and/or Riding Assistant to join our School Farm and Equestrian Team. Working under the direction of the Farm & Equine Manager, you will support the day to day care of our school farm animals and ponies while assisting with the smooth running of the school’s riding programme.
This is a practical and rewarding role that requires a reliable, organised and hardworking individual with experience handling and caring for horses. The successful candidate will be confident working independently, physically fit and enjoy working outdoors in all weathers. They will have a calm, friendly and patient manner when working with children and will share the School's commitment to safeguarding, animal welfare and maintaining a safe and positive environment for both pupils and animals.
Key Responsibilities
Farm & Animal Care (all year)
- Daily care of our school ponies, goats, chickens and ducks.
- Feeding, watering and general animal husbandry.
- Mucking out and maintaining stables and animal housing.
- Ensuring all areas are clean, safe and well maintained.
- Monitoring animal health and welfare and reporting any concerns.
- Supporting general upkeep of the school farm.
Riding Support (term time only)
- Assist a BHS-qualified instructor during riding lessons (no instruction required).
- Prepare horses before and after lessons.
- Lead and handle horses safely.
- Assist pupils with tacking up, untacking and equipment care.
- Support the safe and efficient running of the riding programme.
In-house training will be provided to support the successful candidate in developing their skills across both farm and equine responsibilities.
