Northern Power Electronics Ltd is a growing specialist engineering company providing component-level repair, refurbishment and testing services for industrial electronic and electrical equipment.
We support customers across manufacturing, energy, offshore, process industries and heavy engineering, where equipment failure can result in costly downtime. Our workshop repairs a wide variety of modern, legacy and obsolete equipment, including power supplies, AC/DC drives, servo systems, control equipment and industrial electronic assemblies.
We are looking for a practical and motivated Industrial Electronics Repair Technician to join our technical team in Tyne and Wear. This is a hands-on position offering varied and technically challenging work, with opportunities for training and long-term career progression.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose faults in industrial electronic assemblies and electrical systems down to component level
- Understand how electronic components operate, how faults develop and how to reason from circuit diagrams
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters and other diagnostic equipment to identify faults and root causes
- Repair power supplies, AC/DC drives, servo systems, control equipment and other industrial electronics
- Perform high-quality soldering and desoldering of through-hole and surface-mount components
- Identify and replace faulty components, including semiconductors, capacitors, relays, contactors and associated circuitry
- Carry out fault-finding on electrical control systems and industrial automation equipment
- Work on legacy and unsupported equipment where technical documentation may be limited
- Test repaired equipment safely and effectively in accordance with established procedures
- Maintain accurate repair records and technical documentation
- Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship
- Follow all workshop health, safety and quality procedures
Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline, such as an HND, City & Guilds, apprenticeship or equivalent
- Strong understanding of electronic and electrical circuit principles
- Practical soldering and desoldering experience
- Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, PCB layouts and technical documentation
- Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters and electronic test equipment
- Logical and methodical approach to component-level fault-finding
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Willingness to learn and work on unfamiliar equipment
Desirable:
Experience with one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- Switch-mode power supplies
- AC/DC motor drives
- Servo drives and control systems
- PLC-related equipment
- Industrial automation and electrical controls
- Power electronics
- Legacy or obsolete industrial equipment
- Surface-mount component repair
Candidates do not need experience in every area. Training and support will be provided to the right person with strong electronic fundamentals, practical ability and a genuine interest in industrial repair.
