About us
Green Hammerton CofE Primary is a small village primary school in a two-school federation. We have an amazing team who are dedicated and supportive across the schools.
The role
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and adaptable School Cook to work in our kitchen and provide high-quality, nutritious meals for pupils and staff. You will join a small, committed federation catering structure and play an important part in daily school life.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and prepare varied, nutritious meals that meet government school food standards and the needs of our pupils.
- Produce food in a timely, appetising and hygienic way for the snack and lunch services and other agreed events.
- Cater for special dietary requirements and allergies; ensure clear labelling and record-keeping.
- Manage food stocks and ordering to control waste and keep within budget.
- Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and safety; follow the school’s food safety and health & safety policies.
- Supervise kitchen/dining routines and work closely with lunchtime supervisors to ensure a calm, positive dining environment.
- Keep accurate records (temperature checks, stock, allergen information, accident/incident logs).
- Work cooperatively across the federation to ensure consistency of provision as required.
- Attend training and staff meetings as required.
Person specification — essential
- Experience of planning and preparing meals in a busy setting (school catering experience desirable).
- Knowledge of food hygiene and allergen management; Food Hygiene certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Good organisational skills, stock control and the ability to work to budgets.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a calm, child-centred approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- A commitment to the school’s Christian vision and values.
- Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a school or with children.
- Basic awareness of current government school food standards.
- First aid training (or willingness to undertake).
