Job Description
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for coordinating central pricing activities under the guidance of the Head of Business Development. They will have responsibility for creating pricing proposals (both directly and overseeing the proposals of others within and outside of the BD department), managing master pricing models, taking ownership of the development and maintenance of productivity outputs and driving continuous improvement in the pricing process through analysis of operational contract performance. They will be a senior member of the Business Development team and will be responsible for managing the entire bid process for selected tenders, including the Administration and Quality inputs from BD and the wider business, and ensuring that BD processes, procedures and strict housekeeping are delivered on time and in full. They must have the ability to manage their peers within the BD department during the tender process and the Commercial Manager will effectively deputise for the Head of BD in their absence.
Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the Commercial Manager will be responsible for reviewing, analysing and pricing tenders and services, preparing RFP clarification questions, identifying salient points including areas of risk, and analysing contract terms and conditions and presenting findings to the senior management team. They will liaise closely with Corporate, Operational, Systems and Commercial teams to review resource productivity, machinery, vehicle and equipment costs and output levels.
A key requirement is to continually assess pricing performance - including in-person reviews of recently won contracts - whilst establishing a solid link to the Systems function in order to better leverage the data produced within the business; improving pricing decisions and ultimately contributing to the onward development of Glendale systems from a BD perspective.
Candidate skills and specifications
This position would ideally suit a Graduate who has achieved qualifications in Accounting and Finance / Maths / Economics / Business Studies with several years' practical experience within a commercial business development or finance department. The role holder must be able to interpret operational specifications to develop best practice pricing proposals, be proficient at developing pricing proposals for new and repeat work and have a track record of success within a team; ultimately enabling them to articulate decisions and gain appropriate sign off effectively. They must have the ability to manage small teams effectively and to be able to assertively influence those around them.
