Team Manager
Working hours: Full-time, Rotating shifts (06:00 – 14:00 and 14:00 -22:00)
Location: Swindon
The Team Manager is responsible for managing end to end daily warehouse operations ensuring that all customer contractual obligations are met. You will engage with and provide leadership and motivation to your team as well as being an ambassador for Howard Tenens desired cultural behaviours, facilitating the achievement of KPI’s and ensuring customer excellence.
The Team Manager will identify and contribute to solutions to optimise and add value to new and existing customers’ business aiding both organic and inorganic growth. You will also support and assist the site management team to achieve the strategic objectives for both the site and the Group and ensure site facilities comply with all Legislative, Company, and Customer requirements ensuring that all products processes, premises, MHE and vehicles meet these requirements and continually improve standards. The role will also help the facility gain and maintain appropriate compliance and external accreditation standards where applicable.
What you’ll do:
- Manage, mentor and coach direct reports.
- Manage all aspects of people management processes in line with company policy including recruitment, discipline and grievance, absence and performance management.
- Develops depot operations systems by determining product handling, storage requirements and transport requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilisation, inventory management, dispatch and delivery.
- To work within agreed budgetary limits ensuring strict cost control and spending to agreed levels.
- To be accountable, ensuring relevant operating metrics are met including warehouse productivity, vehicle loading and unloading, pick rates and stock counts.
- Develop and direct programs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilisation of the facility and of all warehouse equipment.
- Develop, implement and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Identify, assess and pursue continuous improvement opportunities
- Organise/ hold / attend daily warehouse meetings –daily shift start/toolbox meeting including the use of the communication board.
- Interact with the Operations Manager to establish clear, ambitious, yet attainable goals and objectives in all business areas (operations, quality and service, H&S, profitability, etc.)
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Ensure that all audits, compliance and legal standards are met and exceeded.
- Responsible for highlighting, managing and escalating any potential quality issues.
- Completion of necessary process control and quality documented records, in a timely manner
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing logistics operations
- Previous experience working in a Transport Supervisory or Managerial role
- Knowledge of relevant transport legislation
- H&S certification
- Previous experience in 3PL multi-user depots
- Budgetary / Cost management experience
- Good working knowledge of current H&S and HR Legislation
- Educated to minimum of ‘A’ Level Standard or Equivalent
- PC Literacy - Advanced user of all Microsoft office applications
- In depth knowledge of warehouse management systems, Health & Safety Management and Human Resources Management
- An enthusiastic leader with demonstrable experience of developing and managing high performing teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and establish and maintain good working relationships with customers, staff and wider management teams
- Customer focused
- The flexibility to adapt and proactively manage change within an ambiguous environment
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities efficiently with a varied and demanding workload
- Demonstrates the ability to determine goals, direction and action steps necessary to maximise short-term and long-term
- The role may require secondment to other sites across the UK
