Part of the SDM Holdings group, UK Archiving is recognised as a centre of excellence in preservation microfilming and digitisation. We provide a complete preservation service tailored to each customer’s needs, capturing a wide variety of collections including newspapers, postcards, photographs, bound volumes, artefacts, glass plate negatives, slides and other historical documents. We work with all public library services across Scotland, as well as archives, publishers, museums, universities and historical societies throughout the UK and internationally.

The successful candidate will complete six months of on-the-job training covering all aspects of analogue and digital imaging.
Hours: 40 hours per week, 8:15am–4:45pm, Monday to Friday
Reports to: Technical Manager
Location: Edinburgh, Sighthill Industrial Estate, EH11 4BY
Salary: £12.95 per hour (£26,936)
The successful candidate will be required to commence work on (or before) 10 August 2026.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Create microfilm and surrogate copies of newspapers and other historical material for libraries and archives.
- Digitally capture newspapers and other historical material for libraries and archives.
- Carry out quality assurance checks on images in all formats, ensuring they meet current ISO, BSI, in-house and customer standards.
- Prepare material and check collections for completeness.
- Maintain accurate records and enter data into databases and Excel catalogues.
- Report any anomalies or technical issues to the Technical Manager or Archive Image Technician.
- Liaise with the Technical Manager and Archive Image Technician on day-to-day production requirements.
- Work to customer and business deadlines as required.
- Achieve task targets where these are set by management.

- An interest or experience in photography or imaging;
- A keen eye for detail, accuracy and a methodical approach to work.
- The ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced, reactive environment.
- Good IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- The ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience with data handling or data input.
- A passion for delivering great service.
- Enthusiasm for learning new techniques and software.
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
- The ability to multitask efficiently.
