About the Department
This role sits within a well-established and highly valued partnership between Warwick Medical School (WMS) and Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT), combining academic innovation with high-quality, real-world clinical care.
Warwick Medical School (WMS) brings together three distinct but closely connected directorates: Biomedical Sciences, the Clinical Trials Unit and Warwick Applied Health (WAH). Together, these directorates underpin WMS’s internationally recognised strengths in health and medical research, clinical trials, population health and medical education, all characterised by work that is applied, interdisciplinary, collaborative and policy relevant.
Within this structure, Warwick Applied Health (WAH) provides a dynamic and supportive environment for clinically oriented research. WAH brings together a range of research groups dedicated to improving health and care through evidence-based service design, evaluation and innovation, offering strong infrastructure for clinical academics to develop work aligned with NHS priorities and focused on real world impact, implementation and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Successful candidates will be based in the Centre for Mental Health Care Research within WAH, joining a vibrant and expanding community of researchers committed to advancing mental health care through high quality, impactful research. The Centre combines co-production, complex intervention research, ethnography and responsible digital innovation with Warwick’s strengths in clinical trials, quantitative and qualitative methodologies and health economics, to deliver meaningful system-level change.
WMS also benefits from well-established partnerships with NHS organisations, supporting the integration of research, teaching and clinical practice, and ensuring that academic work remains directly relevant to current healthcare challenges.
Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) is a large, progressive NHS provider delivering mental health, learning disability, autism and community health services to a population of around 1 million people. With over 100 services across approximately 50 sites, the Trust offers a diverse clinical environment spanning community, inpatient, crisis and specialist care. It has a clear focus on service improvement, integrated care, and workforce development, and works in partnership with academic colleagues to support innovation and evidence-based practice.
Together, WMS and CWPT offer a well-established and effective clinical–academic partnership, providing a strong platform for senior clinicians to undertake work that is both scholarly and directly impactful in practice
