Maintenance Handyman - Care Home

Farrington Care Homes is seeking a reliable and proactive Maintenance Handyman to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous maintenance experience who is looking to start immediately and take pride in helping maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our residents, staff, and visitors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the care home's buildings, grounds, and facilities are maintained to a high standard, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the home.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repair work throughout the care home.
- Undertake planned preventative maintenance and respond promptly to reactive maintenance issues.
- Complete minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, furniture, doors, tables, chairs, and other equipment.
- Perform basic plumbing tasks, including unblocking sinks and drains.
- Carry out minor electrical repairs and general fixings where appropriate.
- Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and maintain electrical equipment records.
- Regularly inspect internal and external areas to identify and address potential hazards.
- Maintain the appearance and safety of outdoor areas, including litter picking, sweeping pathways, emptying bins, and caring for planters.
- Assist with deliveries, moving furniture, and general portering duties.
- Support housekeeping and cleaning tasks when required.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations and company procedures.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities, or property maintenance role.
- Competent in basic building repairs, maintenance, and decorating.
- Experience using small industrial, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements, including COSHH regulations.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe working practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Reliable, practical, and proactive approach to work.
Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on role that involves regular bending, lifting, stretching, carrying equipment, moving furniture, receiving deliveries, and completing repair and maintenance tasks. The successful candidate should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors and in environments where exposure to dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions may occur.
