Company Overview
The Stable Family Home Trust has been dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities since 1980. Our mission is to provide compassionate, community-based services that foster independence and well-being for those we serve.
Summary
Love retail? Passionate about helping people build great skills in the community? At The Stable Family Home Trust, this role is both.
We're looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused Retail & Community Skills Assistant who is, at heart, a support worker with a shop counter. You'll use our vibrant shop at the Bradbury Centre in Southbourne or at Gifted in Highcliffe as a training ground — helping adults with learning disabilities develop the real-life skills, confidence and independence they need to thrive, both in work and in their wider community.
Day to day, you'll coach and mentor clients as they learn everything from serving customers and handling money to stock-taking and display, building skills that open doors to future employment and volunteering. You'll also connect with local artists and makers, and help plan community workshops and events — creating genuine opportunities for our clients to participate, contribute and be valued outside the Centre's walls.
This is a role where the shop is the setting, but the person in front of you is always the priority. We need someone who is as comfortable supporting and encouraging a client through a new task as they are running a till or restocking a shelf.
We're a values-led organisation, and we need someone who lives them too:
Choice — giving people the information they need to decide for themselves
Collaboration — working with our communities to build participation
Respect — creating a space where everyone is seen, heard and valued
Safety — keeping people safe, always
Trust — showing up with honesty, openness and accountability
If you've got retail or customer service experience, a genuine passion for supporting people with learning disabilities, and a belief that everyone deserves the chance to build the life skills that matter to them — we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and help our clients discover what they're capable of, one skill at a time.
