Lead Climber / Experienced Arborist

Rose Tree Surgeons Ltd is looking for experienced Lead Climbers and skilled Arborists to join our growing team on either an employed or self-employed basis.
Our work varies from local domestic and commercial projects to larger contracts undertaken nationwide. Applicants must therefore be comfortable travelling to different locations, with early starts and occasional working away where required.
We undertake a varied range of arboricultural work, including technical pruning, sectional dismantling, large-scale removals, rigging operations, MEWP-assisted works, site clearance and programmed tree maintenance.
We are looking for capable arborists who take pride in their work and can complete jobs safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard. Lead Climber applicants must also be confident supervising a team, organising work on site and communicating professionally with clients and site representatives.
Main responsibilities
- Undertaking professional climbing and aerial tree work
- Completing pruning, dismantling and removal operations
- Carrying out rigging and lowering operations where required
- Leading and supporting the site team
- Organising works safely and efficiently
- Completing daily checks, site paperwork and photographic records
- Reviewing site-specific risk assessments and method statements
- Ensuring works are completed in accordance with the specification
- Maintaining high standards of safety, workmanship and site presentation
- Communicating professionally with clients, contractors and members of the public
- Assisting with the care and maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment
- Supporting less-experienced team members where appropriate
Essential requirements
- Relevant NPTC or LANTRA climbing and chainsaw qualifications
- Aerial rescue and chainsaw use from a rope and harness
- Strong climbing skills and practical arboricultural experience
- A good understanding of modern arboricultural working practices
- The ability to work safely and productively as part of a team
- A professional attitude and high standard of workmanship
- Reliability, good communication and a strong work ethic
- A full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel for local and nationwide work
Lead Climber candidates must have previous experience leading a team and managing works safely on site.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Rigging and advanced dismantling experience
- Relevant rigging qualifications
- MEWP qualification
- Woodchipper and stump-grinder qualifications
- Emergency First Aid at Work, including Forestry
- Towing entitlement
- Experience working on commercial or public-sector contracts
- Experience completing site documentation and photographic records
