The Financial Control team plays a critical role by safeguarding the integrity of the financial information which we use to make key business decisions, overseeing group and statutory reporting, managing balance sheet risk, maintaining a robust control environment, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading on all areas of tax.
We are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to help us take our financial control activities to the next level, presenting an excellent opportunity to join a high performance finance community with real scope to develop new processes and make a difference.
Where will I be based?
This role is based at our HQ in London Victoria and we offer hybrid working with 3 days in the office.

Providing confidence and control over the company balance sheet by developing, embedding and communicating a suite of balance sheet reconciliations which efficiently and effectively identify risk and correct errors.

Take overall accountability for IFRS16 lease accounting across the business – reviewing accounting treatments, advising divisional finance leaders on lease accounting, coordinating and monitoring lease expenditure budgets and approvals and reconciling lease balances monthly.

Producing and analyzing quarterly group reporting packages and liaising with the Group Finance team.

Working with the Financial Controller to produce all Colas Rail UK statutory accounts and reconciling those statutory accounts to group reporting and management accounts.

Taking overall accountability for the timely delivery of external audits (group ad statutory) by planning Colas Rail UK’s approach to the audit and coordinating stakeholders across the UK business.

Provide technical accounting guidance on evolving standards, company law, and HMRC requirements; effectively communicated updates to finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Support the management of Colas Rail UK tax affairs (corporation tax, R&D tax claims) and take direct accountability for VAT and CIS.

Maintain strong financial controls and compliance procedures. Support the finance community in developing best in class internal controls.

Coaching and development of financial control team alongside Financial Controller.

Participate in a variety of other ad hoc financial control activities as defined by the Financial Controller.

ACA / ACCA qualified accountant - Essential

Takes accountability and delivers to deadline without compromising accuracy.

Strong technical accounting knowledge & a proactive approach to keeping technically up to date.

Ability to use key IT tools efficiently (e.g. Excel, ERP systems) and to learn new tools (e.g. Alteryx)

Communicates financial concepts clearly and concisely.
