IT & Networking Technician
Harbour Housing is a Cornwall-based charity providing safe accommodation and tailored support for people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. We help people rebuild their independence and sustain long-term housing through compassionate, person-centred support — and technology is central to delivering that well across our sites.
We're now looking for a skilled IT & Networking Technician to keep our digital infrastructure secure, reliable, and future-ready.
The Role
You'll take ownership of our IT systems and multi-site network infrastructure — designing, implementing, and maintaining the secure, resilient networks our services depend on. It's a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, works well independently, and wants their work to mean something.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain secure wired and wireless networks across multiple Cornwall sites.
- Configure and manage network switches, including VLANs and Layer 2 security (port security, etc.).
- Install, configure, and manage routers, firewalls, and other network hardware.
- Monitor network performance and proactively resolve issues before they affect staff.
- Maintain strong cybersecurity, running regular audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Administer key platforms including Apple Business Manager (device/MDM management), DrayTek ACS (router management), and Hikvision HikCentral (CCTV/access control).
- Provide friendly, effective technical support to non-technical staff.
- Keep current with networking technologies and best practice.
- Travel between sites across Cornwall as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Proven IT and networking experience, ideally across multi-site environments.
- Strong grasp of networking protocols, infrastructure, and security best practice.
- Hands-on skills configuring switches (VLANs, Layer 2 security), routers, and firewalls.
- Experience with device/network management platforms — Apple Business Manager, DrayTek ACS, and Hikvision HikCentral, or comparable tools.
- Excellent, logical troubleshooting and a proactive mindset.
- Clear communicator who can explain the technical to the non-technical.
- A team player with integrity, discretion, and a good sense of humour.
- Full UK driving licence and happy to travel between sites.
