A welcoming primary school in Lambeth is seeking a committed and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated team from September 2026.
The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and will be confident providing both individual and small-group support.
This role would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant, SEN support professional or graduate looking to develop a career within education.
Key Responsibilities
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs
- Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in school life
- Work closely with class teachers and SEN staff to implement appropriate support strategies
- Assist with learning activities and targeted interventions
- Encourage pupils' independence, confidence and engagement
- Support positive behaviour and maintain a calm and inclusive learning environment
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Contribute to the wider school community and inclusive learning environment
- Follow school policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety and pupil welfare
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience working with children with SEN – essential
- Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Be patient, empathetic and resilient
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills
- Be able to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Be proactive, reliable and adaptable
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare
Core subject graduates are encouraged to apply, provided they have previous experience working with children with SEN.
Previous safeguarding training and allergy awareness training would be advantageous but are not essential.
