About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our new Data and BI function. You will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering the data infrastructure that will support our next generation of reporting, analytics, and AI‑driven insights.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape a greenfield data environment as part of a wider modernisation programme. You will be our first dedicated data hire and you will have opportunity to be part of building this function. You will architect scalable data models, build robust ETL/ELT processes, and help establish best practices that enable accurate, high‑confidence decision-making across our group brands.
This role will work across our apparel, footwear and home goods UK group businesses. We are based at our 2 offices in Burgess Hill and Skelmersdale. You will be based at our Burgess Hill office and need to be on-site at least 2 days per week. Occasional travel to Skelmersdale will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain a modern data infrastructure to support reporting and analytics across the business
- Develop scalable data models and schemas optimised for BI, dashboards, and self‑service analytics
- Build and manage ETL/ELT pipelines
- Optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and database structures
- Work with Azure Cloud services to deploy, monitor, and maintain data systems
- Collaborate with technical and non‑technical teams to translate reporting requirements into robust data solutions
- Ensure data quality, governance, and performance across all pipelines
- Support the integration of data services with emerging AI/ML tools (nice to have)
- Investigate and resolve complex data issues, ensuring long‑term, scalable solutions
- Contribute to best practices and act as a self‑starter, taking ownership of data initiatives
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience designing and implementing data infrastructure for reporting and analytics
- Excellent SQL skills with experience optimising queries and data structures
- Hands‑on experience with ETL / ELT
- Strong understanding of data modelling and schema design
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Detail‑oriented with a methodical approach to problem solving
Desirable:
- Experience working with cloud data platforms, ideally Azure
- Experience with MySQL
- Exposure to or interest in AI‑driven data tooling
- Experience working in a multi‑entity group company environment

Pay: £50,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
