Purpose of the Role
To support the Registered Manager in the leadership, management and development of the home, ensuring regulatory compliance, high-quality care delivery and positive outcomes for children and young people.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operation of the home.
- Deputise for the Registered Manager during periods of absence.
- Lead and develop staff teams to deliver outstanding care.
- Undertake supervisions, appraisals and performance management activities.
- Support recruitment, induction and retention of staff.
- Monitor safeguarding practice and oversee safeguarding investigations where required.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and organisational policies.
- Oversee care planning, risk assessments and placement documentation.
- Complete audits and quality assurance activities and implement improvement plans.
- Support preparation for inspections and regulatory visits.
- Monitor staffing levels and workforce planning arrangements.
- Support budget management and effective use of resources.
- Build effective relationships with social workers, commissioners, schools and external agencies.
- Support complaint investigations and incident reviews.
- Lead practice development and service improvement initiatives.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional accountability.
- Ensure the home remains child-centred and outcome-focused in all areas of practice.
Qualifications
- Hold the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or be willing to undertake and successfully complete the qualification within required timescales.
On-Call Requirement
- Participation in the organisation's on-call rota is a contractual requirement of the role.
- Post holders are expected to participate in the on-call rota for up to seven days per month.
- Deputy Managers must be capable of making safeguarding and operational decisions outside normal working hours and providing support and direction to staff teams when required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Significant experience within residential children's care.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Excellent understanding of safeguarding legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience undertaking supervisions and managing staff performance.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience managing complex safeguarding and behavioural incidents.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience of quality assurance and service improvement processes.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Deputy Manager within children's residential care.
- Experience supporting regulatory inspections.
- Experience of budget management and workforce planning.
- Experience implementing improvement plans and action plans.
- Knowledge of therapeutic and trauma-informed models of care.
- Experience supporting registration processes or new service mobilisation.
