About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on, people-first Leisure Manager to take the lead at The Burford Bridge Lido — one of Surrey's most exciting outdoor leisure venues. This is a genuinely varied role that blends outdoor pool management, gym operations, and real commercial responsibility, and it's a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on variety and loves working with the public.
The role follows the rhythm of the lido season. From late March through to the end of September, you'll be at the heart of everything — managing the safe and smooth running of the lido, leading a team of lifeguards, and delivering an exceptional experience for our members and visitors. Outside of the lido season, your focus shifts to running our on-site gym facility, which we're excited to be launching very soon. This is a brilliant chance to be part of something new from the ground up.
Outside of lido season, the pace is naturally quieter, and we offer genuine flexibility around working hours and holidays — we know that balance matters.
What you'll be doing:
During the lido season (late March – end of September):
- Taking day-to-day responsibility for the safe operation of the lido, ensuring all pool safety standards and procedures are maintained at all times
- Leading, managing and motivating the lifeguard team, including running regular lifeguard competency training and ensuring all team members are up to date with their qualifications
- Delivering an outstanding experience for our guests — you'll be the face of the lido and the person our visitors trust
- Managing bookings, admissions, and day-to-day operations with a well-organised, commercially minded approach
- Dealing confidently and warmly with the Surrey public — whether that's resolving a complaint, welcoming a regular, or managing a busy summer weekend
Year-round (with a focus on the gym outside of lido season):
- Overseeing the commercial performance and day-to-day operation of our on-site gym
- Playing a key role in the gym launch — helping to drive memberships, convert enquiries, and build our member base from day one
- Keeping a close eye on revenue, costs and KPIs to ensure the gym performs profitably
- Being the kind of manager who keeps things running smoothly even when you're not in the room
What we're looking for:
- A current, in-date lifeguard qualification (NPLQ or equivalent) is essential
- Experience managing or supervising a pool or lido environment
- The ability to deliver lifeguard competency training would be a strong advantage
- Strong commercial awareness — you understand what it takes to run a venue profitably
- Genuine sales ability, ideally with experience selling memberships or leisure products
- Excellent people skills — you're warm, professional, and calm under pressure
- Solid organisational skills and the confidence to manage a team and a facility independently
- A genuine enthusiasm for leisure, fitness and the outdoors
