Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Clerk of Works to oversee construction projects, ensuring that building standards, safety protocols, and quality specifications are meticulously followed throughout the development process. This vital role involves inspecting ongoing work, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders, and maintaining comprehensive records to guarantee that projects are completed on time, within scope, and to the highest standards of excellence. Duties
Monitoring contractor performance on site to ensure works are carried out in accordance with SP-ENW specifications, drawings, permits, and contract requirements.
Inspecting excavations and reinstatements in highways to ensure compliance with relevant standards such as:
the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991;
the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH);
local highway authority requirements.
Checking health, safety, and environmental compliance, including:
traffic management arrangements.
excavation safety.
safe systems of work.
environmental controls and housekeeping.
Undertaking quality inspections during and after works, including:
excavation methods.
backfilling and compaction.
permanent reinstatement quality.
Recording site observations and defects, producing inspection reports, photographs, and audit records.
Liaising with contractors, highway authorities, and SP-ENW project teams
Identifying and reporting non-conformances, ensuring defects are rectified within agreed timescales.
Supporting performance management by providing feedback on contractor quality, safety, and productivity
Experience
- Proven experience in construction supervision or quality assurance roles within building or civil engineering projects
- Strong analysis skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and reports accurately
- Familiarity with relevant building codes, safety standards, and inspection procedures
- Excellent communication skills for clear reporting and effective collaboration across diverse teams
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining high attention to detail
- Demonstrated organizational skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving and record keeping
