We are seeking a proactive, organised and professional Legal & Human Resources Officer to join our team in a fulltime, office-based role. The successful candidate will support the College's legal compliance, human resources functions, governance and policy development while ensuring the College remains compliant with UK legislation and employment law.
Key Responsibilities
Legal & Compliance
- Provide day-to-day legal and compliance support across the College.
- Monitor changes in UK legislation, employment law and regulatory requirements relevant to the education sector.
- Draft, review and update employment contracts, agreements, College policies, procedures and other legal documentation.
- Assist with complaints, appeals, disciplinary matters, grievances and internal investigations.
- Ensure the College remains compliant with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential legal and compliance records.
- Support compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and data protection requirements.
- Identify legal and operational risks and recommend appropriate actions to minimise those risks.
- Review College procedures and recommend improvements to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness.
Human Resources
- Manage recruitment activities, including preparing job descriptions, advertising vacancies, arranging interviews, preparing offer letters and employment documentation.
- Prepare employment contracts, onboarding documentation and induction materials.
- Coordinate the onboarding and induction process for new employees.
- Maintain accurate employee records in accordance with UK employment legislation and UK GDPR.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on College policies and HR procedures. Support probation reviews, absence management, disciplinary procedures, grievances and performance management processes.
- Ensure Right to Work checks and all required pre-employment checks are completed before employment commences.
- Support employee engagement and staff development initiatives.
- Maintain HR records and assist with payroll administration by ensuring employment records remain accurate and up to date.
General Repsonsibiltites
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling employee, student and organisational information.
- Work collaboratively with all departments across the College.
- Promote a professional, compliant and positive working environment.
- Maintain accurate records and organised filing systems.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by senior management that are consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree in Law, Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in a legal, HR, compliance or administrative role.
- Good understanding of UK employment law and general legal compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Experience drafting policies, procedures, contracts and employment documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Professional, organised and approachable with excellent interpersonal skills.

What We Offer
- Competitive salary of £26,000 – £29,000 per annum, depending on experience.
