Keywall combines engineering expertise with innovative design to deliver high-quality structural support and masonry solutions for the construction industry. Based in Swadlincote, the Special Projects Engineer is responsible for designing, specifying, and pricing structurally compliant Keywall products and systems in response to customer enquiries.
The role requires delivering technical solutions that meet client requirements while ensuring prompt responses to enquiries, effective communication throughout the project lifecycle, and successful coordination with internal teams to achieve project and site delivery deadlines. You will work closely with colleagues during project handovers to ensure drawings, technical information, and manufacturing requirements are delivered accurately and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Promote a strong health and safety culture, demonstrating safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours where appropriate.
- Ensure all designs and specifications comply with relevant industry standards and company procedures.
Technical Schedules
- Prepare accurate technical schedules for Keywall products and structural support systems
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings to develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Liaise with internal engineering and production teams to ensure designs are technically robust and manufacturable.
Customer Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers through regular communication by phone, email and site visits.
- Provide technical advice and support throughout the enquiry and project process.
- Attend design meetings, site visits, and customer reviews to resolve technical issues and contribute to project sucess.
- Respond promptly to technical enquiries and specification requests.
Project Management
- Manage multiple live projects simultaneously, ensuring customer expectations and delivery deadlines are achieved.
- Maintain accurate project records, schedules, and forecasting information.
- Monitor project progress and coordinate design, manufacture, and delivery to align with customer programmes.
- Manage project variations, ensuring any changes in scopeor cost are communicated, quoted, and agreed.
- Monitor delivery requirements and associated costs to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
- Maintain accurate orders forecasts to support production planning and resource allocation.
Documentation and Drawings
- Produce detailed CAD drawings and technical documentation in accordance with agreed timescales.
- Ensure drawings comply with company standards and client specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of installation guides, technical manuals, and supporting documentation where required.
Training and Mentorship
- Support and mentor junior engineers and team members in the preparation of quotations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Share technical knowledge and best practice to encourage continuous improvement and team development.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Minimum of two years' experience in a construction estimating, technical engineering, or design role.
- Strong ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and other relevant CAD/deisgn software.
- Experience producing technical quotations and specifications.
- Strong project management and organistational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of construction methods, structural support systems, and building regualations.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical and commercial objectives.
- Self-motivated, target driven, and are able to work independently.
- Experience using Bluebeam or similar PDF markup software is desirable.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites, project meetings, and construction sites as required.
