Benefits Officer
(Town Hall, South Shields/Hybrid Working)
£25,989 pa
We are looking for a team player who is highly organised and self-motivated with a professional manner and the effective communication skills to work in the Revenues and Benefits Service as part of the Benefits Team.
The role includes the day-to-day activities concerning council tax support and housing benefit administration which involves:
- Verifying all types of change of circumstance claims.
- Reviewing benefit claims and, where appropriate, determine, allocate and notify benefit over/underpayments. Promptly and accurately assess entitlement.
- Proactively identifying potential fraudulent claims and making appropriate referrals in accordance with established procedures.
- Liaising with internal and external agencies.
- Dealing with telephone and written enquiries as directed.
