Role Purpose
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that suppliers consistently deliver materials, components and services that meet required quality, technical, cost and delivery standards. The role works closely with suppliers, procurement, engineering, manufacturing and internal quality teams to prevent defects and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop supplier quality performance across assigned suppliers.
- Establish and maintain supplier quality requirements and standards.
- Conduct supplier audits, assessments and process reviews.
- Support supplier selection, qualification and approval activities.
- Review supplier manufacturing processes, quality systems and control plans.
- Manage supplier non-conformances, complaints and corrective actions.
- Lead 8D / root-cause analysis and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Monitor supplier KPIs including PPM, defects, complaints, on-time delivery and corrective-action performance..
- Review and approve supplier PPAP documentation.
- Work with suppliers to implement robust inspection and process controls.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and production transfer activities.
- Identify and reduce supplier-related quality risks and costs.
- Lead continuous improvement projects with key suppliers.
- Work with engineering and procurement to resolve technical and quality issues.
- Participate in supplier improvement plans and escalation processes.
- Maintain accurate supplier quality records, reports and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant customer, regulatory and company quality requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in a manufacturing, supplier quality or production quality environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality-control techniques.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Willingness to travel to supplier sites as required.
Desirable:
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- Six Sigma / Lean qualification.
- Experience with ERP/QMS systems.
- Manufacturing experience in machining, fabrication, injection moulding, electronics, assembly or other relevant processes.
